General description of the collection: Clayman C. Myers papers include photocopies of scrapbook of clippings compiled - or at least donated by Commander Clayman Myers, Jr. Many clippings concern coastal defense and land and naval heavy ordnance in the last 2 decades of the 19th century particularly the early 1890's. Some focus on the Venezuelan Crisis of 1895. Another important item is a rebuttal by David S. Stanley, aided by John M. Schofield, of charges leveled by Jacob D. Cox against Stanley's behavior at the Battle of Franklin. Non-American items include drawings of French uniforms in 1824, 1853, and 1870; pictures of German and Italian uniforms in 1885, and a trace of the British camp at Kabul in 1879. The few 20th century clippings concern social matters, not military history.
